N.B. This is for SAT Subject Test Math Level 2 Problem:What is the sum of the infinite geometric series: 6 + 4 + 8/3 + 16/9 + ... ? (A) 18 (B) 36 (C) 45 (D) 60 (E) There is no sum. Answer:(A)
The formula for the sum of a geometric series is S = a1/(1 r), where a1 is the first term and r is the common ration. In this problem a1 = 6 and r = 4/6 = 2/3. So, S = 6 / (1 2/3) = 6 / (1/3) = 18.
